Canopy Garden Mission

The Chesapeake Master Gardener’s Canopy Garden highlights plants and foliage which thrive in shaded areas which, more often than not, contain roots from other overcanopy plants such as trees and tall shrubs and must be able to tolerate these competitive conditions.  These garden varieties grow best in soil that requires little moisture and low maintenance.  The Hampton Roads area (with all its waterways and boats) is brimming with a plethora of both native and non-native variants from around the globe that thrive in this environment, much like our community.
